Unsung Heroes Jeannie and Doug Ping host annual picnics for the volunteers of the *Citizens for the Charles County Public Library (C4CCPL) to thank them for their many volunteer hours at the Used Books Bookstore in LaPlata, Maryland.  This bookstore is run as an all-volunteer organization with proceeds of the book sales going to the county public library.  The money the volunteers raise are for educational programs provided by the library, including the popular summer reading program for children, teens and adults

Most of the volunteer hours are spent behind the scenes and the public is not aware of the tireless work they performed.  The volunteers collect book donations, sort, categorize, and shelve those books for the bookstore as well as staffing the weekly sale of books to the public and the semi-annual book bazaars. After many years of helping with all these volunteer activities, Jeannie and Doug Ping decided these volunteers needed special recognition and thanks.  In 2011, Jeannie and Doug began hosting annual picnics to honor and thank the volunteers for their many hours of service during the year.  This picnics are held at their waterfront home on the Wicomico River.  Sadly, in 2020 the bookstore was curtailed and the picnic was not allowed because of the Covid-19 lock-down restrictions.
*Citizens for the Charles County Public Library (C4CCPL) is a Maryland corporation and a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
