Vietnam Era War Veteran George Swanson has been a key volunteer with the very active Waldorf, Maryland Little League for over 31 years.  Service to his country and his community is important to George.  In 1989, he starting coaching girls softball when his young daughters wanted to play ball.  When his girls outgrew the league, he continued to volunteer as Softball Coach until his 5 year old Grandson joined the Little League T-Ball in 2005.  George served as the Manager of his grandson’s team and worked in the Baseball Division through 2019.  He still continues to volunteer with the League and performs a variety of “as needed” jobs.

George serves on the Waldorf Little League Board of Directors.  In addition, he is the Equipment Manager, Sponsorship Director and all-around supporter of  the Waldorf Little League.  Wherever there is a need, George is the “go to” guy to get the job done.  He is a walking, talking billboard for the Waldorf Little League and the many virtues of organized youth sports.  His ability to get businesses in the Waldorf, MD, area to financially support  the community Little League has made it possible to provide scholarship registration fees to many of those families who could not otherwise afford to have their children play in the Waldorf Little League.

Well done, George Swanson!  Your community and the many children you have coached, motivated, cheered and supported will always hold you in their hearts as their Unsung Hero.
