Young Hero Bella Martin
The first day of summer started off just like any other day for the Martin family. The kids were outside, happily playing with their toys while mom and dad went about their usual tasks around the house. They were busy with yard work and house chores, trying to get everything in order. Nine-year-old Kenneth was having a blast riding his dirt bike around the pond. His younger sister Bella, who was seven years old, happily followed him, enjoying the excitement. But then, something unexpected happened. Kenneth lost control of his dirt bike, crashed into a tree, and ended up in the pond.
Bella, being a caring sister, immediately noticed that Kenneth was face down in the water and not moving. Her first instinct was to jump in and help him, but then she thought to herself, “Maybe I should go get Mom and Dad.” With that thought in mind, she quickly hopped onto her battery-operated power wheels and sped off towards the house as fast as those little wheels could take her. She rushed back to the house to inform her Mom and Dad about what happened to Kenneth. At first, they didn’t quite comprehend why he would be in the pond in the first place. But when Bella mentioned that he wasn’t moving, they immediately sprang into action. Without wasting a second, Mom and Dad hurriedly made their way to the pond, fearing for their Son’s safety.
When they reached the pond, their worst fears were confirmed. Kenneth was lying there, face first and unresponsive. Without hesitation, they began administering CPR, desperately trying to revive him and bring him back to consciousness. Miraculously, their efforts paid off and Kenneth started breathing again. The ambulance arrived to transport Kenneth to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent, ME, where he was life flighted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for further medical attention. They discovered that Kenneth had a broken femur, which required surgery. The outcome could have been far worse.
Bella is a true hero. Her swift and decisive actions saved her brother’s life. While a broken femur is a big deal, it pales in comparison to the gratitude many feel towards Bella for ensuring her Brother is still here with us today. It’s incredible how someone’s bravery and presence of mind can make such a difference.
Well Done, Bella Martin, and Mr. and Mrs. Martin!
