Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier was conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 84 in May 2024 when police say a truck fatally hit him, and continued driving. Police say passerby Geri Lyn Dubay saw it happen and helped track that driver down.

“I feel like I didn’t have time to think,” said Geri Lyn Dubay of Plainville, who called 911 immediately after she witnessed the tragedy unfold.  “At that moment, I knew the right thing was to follow the truck and get justice for the family for what I witnessed – tragedy,”

“It happened so fast, and it was just a matter of reacting,” Dubay said.“There was no way I was going to let him get away, so I felt that to do the right thing was to follow him.”  Dubay said she immediately dialed 911, giving real-time updates on their location.

Trooper Pelletier’s wife, Dominique, presented her with the Commissioner’s Recognition Award at the State Police Training Academy.  Dubay told News 8 that she was touched and honored.

Dubay said “I think I was raised by amazing parents, and they taught me about being kind and respectful and doing the right thing, and I think that’s what I did that day, It’s really important to be a role model to my students, to my daughter,  “What I did on May 30 is a powerful reminder that one person can make a difference.”
