One of the Unsung Heroes in our community is Ms. Michelle Hodges.  Michele opened a small thrift shop in Macclenny, Florida, in June of 2018 with the intention of helping those in the local community who are in need.  By June of 2019, she had paid herself back the startup fees, had zero debt, gave away over $10,00.00 to the local community and had saved enough to put a down payment on property and a larger building.

She is presently donating 10% of her receipts to missionary work in Nicaragua – the money goes to a family she met while on missionary work and they assist those who need nutritional assistance. The other 90% is split between local veteran groups; Baker County Veterans Council, Vietnam Veterans of America, the Baker County School System, Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC), ARC Program, and numerous other organizations. She recently presented a check for $15,000.00 to the Baker County Educational fund and a $5,000.00 check to the Baker County Veterans Council.

Every week she gives a truckload of merchandise to local churches so they can distribute them to the local community.  She has opened a second boutique size store in Steinhatchee, Florida, and added a 2200 square foot warehouse to the property in Macclenny.  In 2021 she gave $45,000.00 back to the community that supports her.
