Unsung Heroes Bill and Verna Brown, Bronson, FL
Since 1996 The Children’s Table has always operated under the belief that no child or person should go to bed hungry. Through the years, thousands of families in rural North Central Florida have benefited from their kindness. What started out as giving away food from the Brown’s own home garden located in a small rural town of Bronson, Florida with a population of a little over 1,000 residents, has since grown into an organization that has given millions of pounds of food to individuals and families.
Retirement has not been easy for Verna and Bill who have chosen to operate an all volunteer Food Bank 7 days a week for rural North Central Florida residents who can no longer put food on their table. Bill who is a vibrant 92 year-old and will be celebrating his 93rd birthday on April 30, 2023. Bill and his wife Verna, have never turned down giving away or finding food for the thousands of calls they have received through the years. They give out more than food; they give out love, respect, and dignity to everyone participating in sharing food for those in need.
Bill and Verna along with the many volunteers at The Children’s Table deserve a huge thank you for all they have done and continue to do for their community and surrounding areas. Especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even at their age and being in the highest risk category for catching the virus, they won’t stop helping others. While this is an uncertain time for all of us, Bill and Verna believe now more than ever in these tough times that they can’t stop what they are doing do help even if it puts them at risk. They do all of this work because they feel passionate that it is each of our responsibility to make a difference in the lives of others.
