Veterans Welcomed Young Marine and New U. S. Marine Recruit
Sean Vernon as Guest Speaker

The monthly Veterans In-Need Luncheon was held June 20 in Jacksonville. Veterans gave a warm welcome to Guest Speaker Sean Vernon, former Young Marine Master Gunnery Sergent and new U.S. Marine Corp Recruit. Vernon spoke on his experiences, training and his travel with the Young Marines in Europe and Pearl Harbor to learn World War II History.

During Vernon’s talk, Veterans were moved to applause and sounded off with the traditional Marines spirited shout “OORAH” to honor this fine Young Marine. The devotion and pride in U.S. Military Service between these seasoned Veterans and this Young Marine was heartfelt and moving. We were all proud to be present.

We Can Be Heroes Founder Beth Heath presented Sean Vernon with the Unsung Heroes Award Certificate and a USMC cap engraved with his name. Vernon was recognized as an Unsung Hero in 2024 for his dedication, leadership skills, and professionalism serving at many large events for the We Can Be Heroes Foundation. This Foundation has been a sponsor of the Atlantic Coast Young Marines – Black Creek Young Marines in Florida since 2016.

The next Veterans In-Need Luncheon will be July 25 at the Clara White Mission Veterans Unit in Jacksonville, FL.  Guest Speaker Dr. Henry Moreland of the Korean War Veterans Association will discuss the Korean War Armistice, signed on July 27, 1953.
